伍德沃德從2005年就進入曼聯管理層 ，當時他作為摩根大通的高級職員協助了格雷澤家族成功收購曼聯俱樂部。2012年伍德沃德成為曼聯CEO和執行副主席。在伍德沃德執掌曼聯期間 ，俱樂部的商業開發有了大幅提升，但很多曼聯球迷批評伍德沃德是格雷澤家族的傀儡 ，隻顧經濟利益 ，讓曼聯從頂級豪門淪落到目前隻能為前四而戰 。
