北京時間8月6日 ，西甲西注巴薩官網發布公告 ，联盟俱樂部不會與梅西續約 ，拒绝他將自由離隊 。为梅據記者Manuel Veth消息 ，册除梅西成為了巴薩與西甲聯盟博弈的非巴犧牲品。
記者Veth在社交媒體上寫道 ：“巴薩不想在CVC的萨同合同上簽字 ，這將會破壞球隊歐洲超級聯賽的意注议雄心 。而西甲聯盟則希望一次性埋葬超級聯賽的资协計劃 ，因此聯盟拒絕為梅西注冊 ，西甲西注除非巴薩在合同上簽字 ，联盟這就是拒绝巴薩失去世界最佳球員的原因。”
據西班牙媒體《世界報》報道 ，为梅皇馬與巴薩都反對西甲與CVC的册除注資協議 ，原因是非巴兩家俱樂部都認為長期來看 ，該協議會讓球隊賠錢 。《世界報》表示兩家俱樂部認為40年的貸款實在太長，無法接受 。皇馬官方發布聲明 ，表示該協議有欺騙性 ，指責Laliga將未來50年10.95%的數字媒體轉播權益出讓給CVC是違法行為 ，是在皇馬不知情的情況下達成的 。
此前有消息稱 ，西甲聯盟否決了梅西的續約合同。記者表示 ，特巴斯讓（或者他認為）拉波爾塔陷入兩難境地 ，梅西還是超級聯賽 。現在，拉波爾塔還沒有放棄 ，他兩者都想要 ，特巴斯的假設是拉波爾塔為了梅西交出超級聯賽。
