北京時間4月14日 ，根據天空體育消息 ，多队歐足聯預計將批準“歐冠外卡”計劃 ，反对英超除BIG6之外 ，欧冠其他英超球隊均反對這一決議 ，制度認為這是精简在給BIG6開後門 。
歐足聯上周在其執行委員會會議上討論了歐冠外卡計劃 ，版欧並將於5月10日在維也納舉行的英超歐足聯大會上進行投票 ，預計該計劃屆時將獲得批準 。多队這意味著從2024年起 ，反对歐冠聯賽將預留兩個席位 ，欧冠供那些未能通過國內聯賽晉級但有著豐富歐戰傳統的制度球隊 。
一名英超球隊高管指出 ，精简這意味著歐冠將引入了“兩級係統” ，版欧這隻是英超在為歐洲豪門服務 。這幾乎就像是精簡版歐洲超級聯賽，讓人擔心的是最開始可能隻有2支持外卡參賽的球隊，但以後會變成4個 ，8個......最後歐冠聯賽將變成越來越封閉的比賽 。
按照目前的外卡製度 ，英超BIG6未來如果包攬前六名，他們很可能獲得6個歐冠的參賽席位，隻要獲得第五、第六名的球隊比意甲 、德甲 、西甲等非歐冠資格球隊係數高就可以獲得歐冠席位 。另外如果BIG6無緣前4 ，足總杯的冠軍也將有可能獲得歐冠席位 ，按歐冠外卡製度目前足總杯的4強也隻有水晶宮將錯過歐冠聯賽。
