The second generation of the Apple Watch Ultra has arrived.
Opens in a new windowCredit: AppleApple Watch Ultra 2The rugged Apple Watch Ultra debuted only last year, but there are a few meaningful upgrades to the still-pretty-new smartwatch. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 has a faster processor, which makes for even longer battery life, as well as improved sensors for health readings and a new U2 chip for more accurate GPS tracking.
Powering this device is the innovative S9 chip, which introduces the intuitive "double tap" gesture, enhancing user experience and accessibility. One of its standout features is a new on-device version of Siri, which operates independently of WiFi — a massive leap forward in ensuring that users can utilize voice commands in any setting.
Like the Series 9 also unveiled today, the Ultra 2 continues Apple's commitment to the environment with increased recycled content in the watch case and being carbon neutral. Underscoring the company's dedication to sustainability, the smartwatch, designed with outdoor enthusiasts in mind, is made with recycled parts. Other than internal and material changes, the Ultra 2 has the same outward appearance and 49-millimeter size advanced display, with brightness at an impressive 3,000 nits, ensuring crystal-clear visibility even under intense sunlight.
Additionally, Apple introduced the "Modular Ultra" display, a dynamic feature that adjusts to night mode automatically, making it perfect for all-day and all-night wear. Battery life is yet another highlight, with the watch promising up to 36 hours of regular use and a staggering 72 hours on low-power mode.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is available for preorder today and will go on sale Sept. 22. It costs $799.
