2016, on the whole, can do one. Whether it was the death of Bowie or the birth of Brexit, the slow motion car crash of the presidential election and the subsequent Trumpocalypse or the hacks, attacks and outages that peppered the year, it was a pretty dismal twelve months.

Praise be, then, for Snoop Dogg, who's been honing his social media skills for some time but really provided the commentary we all needed this year. From the Olympics to Pokémon via Ken Bone, he had something to say about everything the year had to throw at us.

Here's how the year panned out from the Doggfather's perspective.

When he channeled the country's frustration at server outages

From Slack to Gmail to PS4s, outages were a consistent theme of 2016. Snoop didn't take too kindly to having his online play interrupted though, and posted a threat to Microsoft on Instagram in January.

"Your fucking server is fucking whack man, you'll have make me switch to Playstation if you don't know how to get this shit fixed," he said in a video he posted to the site -- twice. "What the fuck is you doing Bill Gates? Fix your shit man."

When he narrated his own version of Planet Earth

By March, amid reports of Zika outbreaks, North Korean rocket launches and bombings in Brussels, we all needed some distraction from the news.

Snoop chose the month to drop Planet Snoop, featuring an epic battle between a squirrel and a snake on his YouTube channel Merry Jane.

His tribute to Muhammad Ali

From Bowie to Prince to Alan Rickman, celebrity deaths seemed to come at an alarming rate in 2016. Snoop was often there to help remember the greats.

Nods to the boxing legend were not in short supply following Ali's death in early June, but Snoop pulled an awesome selfie out of the drawer for his own tribute.

When he got Simone Biles fever just like the rest of us

Rio captivated the country during 2016's long lost, more innocent summer, and Snoop was watching along too. He particularly championed the USA's star gymnast, urging Biles to "show us that we can do anything" before reminding her "the dismount has to be extraordinary, baby girl."

When he jumped feet first into the 'Pokémon Go' craziness

During the summer, you were either tearing your hair out trying to catch rare Pokémon or slamming into zombified players immersed in their screens.

That time he dropped into the Bone Zone

By the autumn, the presidential race was hotting up and the country was sitting through endless debates. Red sweater-wearing Ken Bone was the brief star of the show, with his question about energy policies and his inability to say no to the press. Snoop sensed an opportunity for a new friendship.

"KBone!! When you coming thru tha doggy den 4 a little chit chat?" he asked during a Reddit AMA. "I got something special at tha crib for u."

Bone confirmed to Mashablethat his company "has a very robust drug testing policy, but I love me some Snoop."

His take on Tim Kaine left little to the imagination

"This weak-ass motherfucker's one of the reasons why she lost. She should have put Bernie as her motherfucking running mate," Snoop steamed.

Then he calmed down, and got more philosophical as he prepared to wash his face with a flannel.

"Well, we'll have to get used to it," he said. "Just like they had to get used to Obama. They was mad as a motherfucker when Obama won ... but you see time healed all that shit. We've just got to figure it out, give him a shot, give him a chance. See what he gonna do. Trump, you're on the clock. Let's see what you've got."

His thoughts on Kanye: 'Crazier than the shit I got on my head'
