由於疫情形勢嚴峻，取消本屆美洲杯原東道主哥倫比亞和阿根廷相繼放棄主辦權 。南美能被南美足聯正在與其它國家協商 ，足联洲杯了解其它國家的今天将召急舉辦意願 。此前有報道稱 ，开紧美國 、议美智利和巴拉圭都有可能接過本屆美洲杯的取消主辦權 ，但目前還沒有確切的南美能被消息 。
據報道稱 ，足联洲杯南美足聯將在當地時間本周一（5月31日）召開緊急會議 ，今天将召急討論本屆美洲杯舉辦地的問題 ，這屆賽事存在取消的可能性 。
本屆美洲杯舉辦過程一波三折 ，原定的舉辦時間是去年夏天 ，由於爆發了疫情，因此延期了一年 ，但是原東道主哥倫比亞和阿根廷國內疫情形勢依然嚴峻，不得不選擇放棄舉辦 。按照賽程安排 ，本屆美洲杯在今年6月13日-7月10日進行 ，現在距離開賽還不到兩周時間。
