阿根廷對荷蘭一戰爆發本屆最激烈的衝突 ，賽後梅西餘怒未消 ，起初外媒報導韋格霍斯特靠近梅西的時候 ，其實他是要向梅西致意 ，想索取他的上衣 。梅西毫不客氣叫他滾開 ，還罵他笨蛋 。不過梅西故意用西語來罵而不是用英語 ，韋格霍斯特聽不懂 ，並未爆發更多爭吵。
