談到足球比賽中的李毅连机單刀球 ，李毅表示 ：“單刀對於前鋒球員來說是武磊有一定的壓力 ，關鍵是创能力看守門員，好的造单守門員遇到單刀時候是不慌的 ，如果要提前倒地 ，刀球那就比較好踢，别人如果站好位置不動 ，李毅连机對攻方球員就比較困難 。武磊”
對於國足前鋒武磊飽受詬病的创能力單刀球處理，李毅坦言 ：“很多朋友都在質疑武磊 ，我也看了這個視頻 ，說他20多個單刀不進，我是這麽看 ：首先他能創造這麽多個單刀機會 ，就說明他有這個實力 ，換作一般的球員連獲得這個機會的能力都沒有 ，怎麽能形成單刀 。武磊是第一步能夠通過他的能力 ，他的速度、跑位和前插來創造機會，現在需要提高的是克服“單刀恐懼症” 。”
“你可能給他別的球他可以打進，但他遇到單刀會有一種恐懼感 ，所以我覺得單刀球一個是心理 ，一個是技術作為保障 。之前我也說過，如果我們有更多球員去留洋 ，國家隊有8個10個，不一定去五大聯賽，隻要能踢上比賽 ，因為他的對抗，他的節奏和自信完全不一樣 。我希望更多年輕球員能去國外看一看 ，不要局限於中國 ，不要覺得在中國踢的不錯就可以了 ，那完全就是閉門造車 。”
