Former First Lady Barbara Bush, who passed away on Tuesday, once had a bit of a brush with TV's Marge Simpson. When the show's team learned that Bush didn't like The Simpsons, she received a letter from Marge and responded with an apology.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bush once called The Simpsons"The dumbest thing I've ever seen."
Marge talks about her children and about not speaking ill of people – as well as the fact that "dumb" is relative, especially in politics.
Credit: fox via hollywood reporterThe First Lady was touched by this gesture irrespective of Marge's fictional status; as the letter notes, the two women have much in common, including family values and loyalty to their husbands. In her response, Bush describes looking at a plastic Simpsonscup depicting Marge with Homer, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie.
"It is a nice family scene," she wrote. "Clearly you are setting a good example for the rest of the country. Please forgive a loose tongue."
