6月13日晚 ，索斯桑乔在歐洲杯D組第一輪 ，盖特英格蘭對陣克羅地亞的落选里皮比賽中 ，桑喬和奇爾維爾沒能入選大名單 ，因只用索斯蓋特安排右後衛特裏皮爾作為左後衛首發出戰。人特索斯蓋特表示 ，索斯桑乔他將奇爾維爾和桑喬排除在首場對陣克羅地亞的盖特大名單之外 ，不是落选里皮因為他們有傷在身，而是因只用因為需要考慮到其它的位置 。
索斯蓋特在接受BBC體育采訪時說 ：“這兩名球員沒能進入大名單 ，人特是索斯桑乔因為很不幸的 ，我們隻能選擇23人 ，盖特而我們還需要考慮到其它的落选里皮位置 。讓一些球員不能出現在重大比賽中，因只用我不喜歡這樣的人特情況 。”
索斯蓋特力挺特裏皮爾出任左後衛 ，這引起了不小的爭議 。索斯蓋特表示 ：“我覺得他是一個非常有經驗的球員，是一個很好的一對一防守者 ，能夠阻止對麵的傳中 。特裏皮爾的溝通與領導能力能夠為我們的球隊提供幫助 ，他的經驗可以幫助球隊打得更好 。”
