Previously, Bumble required users to register with a Facebook profile. But given the recent backlash to Facebook's insatiable appetite for user data and longer reach into our lives than many people realized, that coupling of dating apps with Facebook began to make some users uncomfortable.
Mashable first reported that the feature was in the works in March.
Tinder also lets users register with a phone number instead of a Facebook profile. However, as Mashable reported, Tinder users who want to get Facebook out of their love lives will have to start over with a new account if they want to register with a phone number. That means all your dating history will disappear.
Mashable has reached out to Bumble to see if Bumble users who want to register with phone numbers will also have to start from ground zero, and will update this post when we learn more.
Happy swiping.
