北京時間5月15日淩晨 ，切尔球负在足總杯決賽中 ，西足切爾西點球大戰5-6不敵利物浦 ，总杯遺憾錯失冠軍 ，惨遭次决這也是连亚切爾西3屆足總杯決賽所連續獲得的第3個足總杯亞軍。本賽季聯賽杯決賽 ，近年切爾西也是赛点點球大戰負於利物浦。
切爾西在參加的红军近3屆足總杯決賽先後不敵阿森納（19-20賽季） 、萊斯特城（20-21賽季）和利物浦（21-22賽季） 。切尔球负數據統計顯示 ，西足切爾西也是总杯紐卡斯爾（1974 、1998 、惨遭次决1999）之後首支足總杯三連亞的连亚球隊 。
藍軍在本賽季4戰利物浦共計鏖戰420分鍾均戰平 ，近年僅通過2次點球大戰決出勝負 。赛点這也是紅軍近3年來第3次通過點球大戰在決賽擊敗藍軍 ，克洛普率領紅軍贏得的六個冠軍中 ，有三次都是通過擊敗切爾西贏得的 。分別是 ：2019年歐洲超級杯、2021-2022賽季聯賽杯以及本賽季的足總杯 。
在這場決賽中，切爾西中場芒特罰丟了關鍵點球 。據統計 ，這是芒特在溫布利參加的第六次決賽 ，更悲催的是這六次他所在的球隊都輸了球 。而切爾西官推在賽後發文激勵球隊 ：“要告訴一個男人 ，我們已經竭盡全力。我們是切爾西 ，我們會回來的 。”
