北京時間7月2日 ，克罗克羅斯從德國國家隊退役 ，斯个时间他在個人社交媒體上宣布了這則消息 。点退關於自己從國家隊掛靴 ，役刚克羅斯發推表示 ，刚好年齡並不是想挂靴自己退役的原因所在，而是克罗他感覺現在退役的節點剛剛好 。
克羅斯表示 ：“歐洲杯賽前我就和弗裏克有過聯係 ，斯个时间他說想在歐洲杯結束之後和我共事 。点退我向他說明了一切 ，役刚因為我想讓弗裏克在沒有我的刚好情況下做出計劃 。我在2018年時就想過退役 ，想挂靴主帥勒夫也勸說我，克罗他給我打了好幾次電話 ，斯个时间那時候我並不是点退100%確定要從國家隊退役。”
“我選擇退役而是出於自身感受 ，現在我感覺退役時機剛剛好 。每一次的國家隊比賽都要花費數周旅行以及離家時間，我不想一直通過視頻電話的方式與妻兒見麵 ，我想花更多時間去陪伴他們 。”
