Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a congresswoman and proud millennial, knows about the increasing popular burn, "OK Boomer." And honestly? She gets it.

After campaigning alongside 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in Iowa over the weekend, AOC spent some time answering questions on Instagram Live. When a follower asked, "How do you feel about the 'new' response to boomers with 'OK Boomer?'" the New York representative gave an honest and fairly straightforward reply.

Gary Grumbach of NBC News shared a clip from the Instagram Live, in which AOC can be heard saying, "We grow up and we come of age and we realize that previous generations decided to screw over our planet, and create endless wars, and mess up our economy, and create a student loan crisis."

"And when we bring up these things they say well, if you just had less avocado toast you'd be able to afford a mortgage," she went on. "There's only so much of that you hear where you're just like, you know what? We're just going to fix this ourselves."

AOC also touched on the generational memes at an event with Sanders on Saturday, where she told KETV, "I think particularly for young people there's this reality that we acknowledge that we are inheriting generational issues where we kicked the can down the road so long..."

"It almost feels like all of this procrastination was just like using our generation like a credit card to say, 'OK, well you're gonna deal with it,'" she went on.

Though it's clear AOC understands millennial frustrations firsthand, she also thinks that a solution to the problems at hand lies in generations working together.

"What we need to do is push towards a positive and inclusive movement where it is, in fact, intergenerational but progressive, and I think that's where we hope to lead this movement in the future."

"I agree," Sanders said, before calling attention to the age gap between himself and Ocasio-Cortez. "Despite the fact that Alexandria is so much older than I am."

In addition to raising awareness on the importance of tackling climate change and other issues, Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders are showing the world that it's definitely possible for two politicians from different generations to not only co-exist, but to respect and complement each other.
