據報道 ，为伤徐新加盟泰山時 ，国字和俱樂部簽訂的海港号抽是一份1+4的合同，但是免费在上賽季結束之後 ，徐新並未選擇順延合同 ，引进预案從而成為自由身 。徐新性隨著泰山很快敲定了原廣州隊中場廖力生 ，比高病和徐新逐漸與海港越走越近 。为伤
除徐新外，国字海港陣中擁有楊世元 、海港号抽買提江 、阿布拉汗等多名球員 ，眾所周知的是 ，隊長奧斯卡 、外援保利尼奧和穆伊也主要集中在中前場 ，因此真正留給本土球員的中場位置並不多 。不過，考慮到漫長賽季中的傷病和國字號球隊抽調等因素，這樣的人數配置又的確是球隊所需要的 。
徐新此次是以自由身加盟海港 ，因此海港俱樂部不需要支付任何轉會費就能收獲一名國腳級中場 ，性價比頗高 。
