Within the world of fashion Instagram influencers, Motorola has mounted a full-scale marketing blitz for its new Razr flippable smartphone in GOLD.

The pairing makes sense: the Razr was a fashion staple in the aughts, and nostalgia for Paris Hilton-esque 2000s fashion is all over runways and the 'gram. Oh, and did we mention the gold?

While the basic $1,500 black model was unveiled in November, Motorola debuted the blinged-out "blush gold" version at a show during New York Fashion Week. Two teenage models/influencers, who are the daughters of Real Housewife Lisa Rinna, strutted down the runway flashing the gold Razr redux in their hands.

Online, the gold smart Razr has appeared in multiple influencer posts united under the hashtags #FeelTheFlip and, of course, #Ad.

Because our current timeline is also dominated by #uglyfashion, in one high-profile post, the flip-happy phone got accidentally upstaged by something more ponderous than tech nostalgia: jeans.

Danielle Bernstein, proprietor of the 2.3 million-follower strong Instagram fashion empire WeWoreWhat, I have questions for you. First and foremost: What the holy hell is up with these jeans??? (Scroll to the second pic for the best look.)

Let's get this straight. These are high-waist slouchy jeans that are either straight leg or have a slight flare. Either way, the floppy leg tubes go all the way to the ground. But then, THEN, what are those around your ankles, Danielle? BUCKLES? Two tiny belts? How does one acquire an ankle belt? Nay, a pair of ankle belts? Did you add these yourself or did the jeans come this way?

These are just a few of the questions I have for Danielle. My next query is, of course, who makes these? It's true, ugly denim is having an extremely serious and scarring moment; too many chains, pant legs of different sizes, chaps, you name it. Really, what is Fashion? Excuse me, I have to go scream.

Ok I'm back. Scouring the internet and the We Wore What timeline has led me to believe that these particular jeans may be by designer Veronica Beard. According to Bernstein's Instagram story, she attended Beard's show a scant 22 hours ago. That could have been the perfect opportunity to shoot this troubling shot. Beard sells two pairs of jeans with lil' ankle straps and a waistline and fit that looks similar to what Bernstein is sporting (this style is the most uncanny). So perhaps they could be from a different season or line. WHO KNOWS. This was my best guess; I had to eliminate Bernstein's own fashion line, because she doesn't make jeans — just overalls.

Mashable has reached out to all the appropriate parties to get to the bottom of this denim mystery and will update this story WHEN and IF we hear back. Buckle your ankles, people. That's a saying now.

UPDATE: Feb. 12, 2020, 11:19 a.m. EST

A Danielle Bernstein/WeWoreWhat spokesperson got back to Mashable with *slightly* more information on the provenance of the buckle jeans.

"They aren’t veronica beard and aren’t branded - stay tuned for more announcements!"

Bernstein also responded to the droves of fans asking for information about the pants in the comment of the post. HOWEVER, she has since deleted the comment??

Guess the information was just *too* sensitive. Could this mean Bernstein is expanding beyond overalls? Is this fashion? Guess we'll have to wait and see.
