德國F組第二出線 ，索斯桑乔而日耳曼戰車將會迎戰小組第一出線的盖特国或英格蘭。三獅軍團在此前的战德中卫三場小組賽中一直使用四後衛陣容。其中特裏皮爾可以擔任右邊後衛 ，变阵而盧克-肖以及薩卡則是出场左後衛位置的選擇 。
四後衛陣容在防守上擁有優勢，英媒有望但是索斯桑乔球隊的創造力與進攻卻沒有亮點，而這也是盖特国或三獅主帥索斯蓋特需要改善的地方 。尤其是在四後衛陣容中 ，桑喬這位來自多特的天才前鋒沒有位置 ，這也讓索帥受到了質疑與批評 。
《每日鏡報》的消息稱 ，索帥已經開始考慮在對戰德國的比賽中使用三後衛陣容 ，而沃克 、馬奎爾以及斯通斯是首發三中衛的第一選擇 。另外使用這陣容後 ，凱恩 、斯特林這樣的進攻球員也可以得到更多的機會 ，而桑喬這位右邊鋒也有用武之地。
