北京時間7月4日 ，日本據日本媒體“tokyo-sports”報道 ，队主队需多位日本國家隊主教練森保一在接受該家媒體采訪的帅战实力時候，展望了本屆12強賽的中国增强前景 。
此次12強賽分組 ，警惕日本隊避開了最大的归化敵人韓國隊以及難纏的對手伊拉克 ，但是巴西森保一對於中國隊很警惕 。在談到中國隊的日本時候 ，森保一表示 ：“我對到底加入了那個小組沒有任何印象，队主队需多位因為到處都是帅战实力亞洲強隊 。我認為中國隊很強 ，中国增强他們擁有艾克森在內的警惕5名從巴西歸化的球員 ，來自巴西王國的归化球員絕對強大 ，球隊實力肯定在提高 。巴西我還沒有仔細研究過中國隊 ，日本但是我在亞冠聯賽當中看過他們，我覺得他們很出色 。我們也正在提升球隊的實力。”
談到日本隊在12強賽當中的目標，森保一表示，自己希望“盡我所能為世界杯做準備 ，一場一場去踢”，目前首先關注的是揭幕戰 。在上屆世預賽上 ，日本就在揭幕戰主場敗給了阿聯酋 。
