They play Troy and Rose Maxson, a married couple living with Troy's brother and two sons (one by Rose and one from a previous marriage). In this short scene, from the very beginning of the story, Troy describes meeting Rose for the first time, all those years ago.。

In August Wilson’s original play, Troy faces an internal conflict over his son Cory pursuing a career as an athlete -- something that Troy himself dreamed of but was unable to achieve due to systemic racism in the MLB. The resultant tension ripples through the family, including Rose. 。Fences 。
